NO MUSIC                 KNOW MUSIC

NO LIFE                KNOW LIFE

Music has a miraculous impact on anyone who can connect to it…

Emotions of excitement, thrill, peace and calm all at the same time is what was the state of the students of Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School. It was indeed a day to look forward to when world renowned musician, percussionist and composer, a living legend by himself, Mr.Trilok Gurtu visited the institute for an interactive session with the students of STD XI on 23rd February,17. He was warmly welcomed by the Director of the Institute, Mr. Vyankatesh Prabhudesai and was formally introduced to the students by Mr. Nitin Kunkolienker.

Currently based in Germany, Trilokji is still deeply connected to his roots and the classical music of India, which he claims is scientific, vast and the Best indeed! His work is a blend of music of his homeland with jazz fusion. He is self –confessedly strongly influenced by the rhythms of Africa and African beats and drumming patterns.

Speaking about the highs and lows in his life, Trilokji confessed to the students that academics was never his priority but a mere necessity. He never planned his life but there was one thing which he did with his heart and soul – pure connection with music which surrounded him given his great family history in that field. He admitted that even though playing  tabla was not on his immediate To Do List, he accidently got into the genre.  Without any formal training, learning the art of the tabla just by listening and observing like a baby does … he developed an unbreakable bond to it and made an un –BEAT- able record of a series of classic music albums eventually!

The students heard the struggles of Trilokji in rapt attention. His first few failures in his early career were his life lessons, He claims. Whether it was sleeping on a station or trying to find base in a new country, or his trifles to create such music which would be mass appealing …he says that all this was destiny which drove him into the direction of creating his own style of fusion holding the authenticity of classical music intact. If it wasn’t for the belittling remarks an Indian musician faces in a foreign country, he wouldn’t have been able to shape himself in the way he has over the years.

It was an icing on the cake for the students when Trilokji gave a brief performance for them. He very warmly involved student participation and created magic! He reaffirmed the fact that for him music is divine and worshipping  it  gives him peace and sanctity.

He took this opportunity of interaction with the young brains, to imbibe in them the importance of our classical music, which he claims and believes is the best. The students too understood this fact and interacted with him asking their queries. Mr. Vyankatesh Prabhudesai coordinated the entire question and answer session.

The crowd was in awe of Trilokji, a man who finds perfection in the little imperfections that fate had brought his way. Guess he must think of them as Serendipity – fortunate accidents! Zakhir Hussain once said  that if Trilok played only the tabla  he would have been the best tabla player in the world!

Magic, love and divine power of music was instilled in the young minds and it was clearly visible in their cheery eyes. They celebrated their love for music and captured this beautiful moment with the livewire of fusion music –  Trilokji!
