On 12th December 2019, the students of Mushtifund Aryaans were excited to meet Major Deepak Rao, a commando trainer and the brand ambassador of the territorial army of India. Since we joined Aryaans, because of our Director VPD Sir’s popularity, we were honoured to meet many eminent personalities like engineers, professors, scientists, researchers, doctors and so on. But this was probably the first time that we were meeting someone who though a doctor, was actually a commando trainer and was associated with the army.
But the students had mixed feelings because though we were excited to meet Sir, we also thought that being an army officer and holding the rank of a major, we would have to be very disciplined and formal in front of Sir. But as Sir walked in and the session progressed, something unexpected happened as Sir told us to make noise, in fact a lot of noise.
Sir started the session by enthralling us with his life journey and the drift from medical career to a commando training. Some events were narrated so humorously that it set the entire class guffawing.
Through his life events Sir put forth so many things that really mattered to us as students and as future professionals. Sir emphasized the importance of basic concepts. He also mentioned that “NO CRAMMING ONLY UNDERSTANDING” should be our mantra. Sir also expressed that he does not believe in “WORK HARD NOW, ENJOY LATER.” He said that one should enjoy what he is working with. One should where his interests lie. Sir also mentioned that no one should ever give up their hobbies. Towards the end, Sir highlighted on the topic of brain drain and also told us that a good personality and communication skills are what that actually matter in life, may it be for a interview. Sir gave us another advice to realize our self worth and to live life peacefully.
At the end of Sir’s talk we watched one video showcasing Sir’s achievements. And we felt really proud to know that one of Sir’s book is the only Indian book to be kept at The INTERPOL library.
Then came the interesting question and answer session which was entirely coordinated by our director VPD Sir. Major Rao answered all the questions easily. Sir explained his work and the technicalities simplifying it for us and at the same time he gave some lessons for life, which all of us will nurture. We thank Major Rao for guiding and motivating us. We also thank VPD Sir for letting us have these beautiful opportunities of meeting people not only from science background but from other areas of life as well.
